I Spy Quilt #3

 I've been working on this quilt for a few months now. I finally finished it this weekend! :) I used Sandra's Tutorial  from Sew In Peace. Overall it was easy to put together and I love the end result. It's different than the other two I've made seen here and here. 

I also decided to stipple this one. It's tricky to do but really fun. ;) 

 For the backing I bought the binding fabric for that but the quilt ended up being a lot bigger than I thought. So I just used a bed sheet I picked up for $5.

I also made my own bias tape. 

I love how it's so different from the ones I made before. Overall a fun and time consuming project.

Super Simple Skirts

It has been feeling like Spring here. The perfect excuse to make some new skirts for my little girl. 

 I used Dana's skirt tutorial I think this one might be my favorite with the two tiers.

 For the second skirt I decided to add some fabric on the bottom for more contrast. I love how it turned out but it's a bit long. My little model doesn't seem to mind though. Hopefully it will fit her longer. :)

I also made her some felt bows using this tutorial on Disney's blog. I Love the rounded edges on the bows. They were really fun to make and super fast too! :)

Pillow Update

I found this fun fabric a few weeks ago and knew it would be perfect for some new pillow covers.

I just made a simple envelope cover which took less than 10 minutes. I also paired them with my Chevron Love pillow. A fun new update for under $10 and under 10 minutes. Can't beat that!

Sewing 101

Remember when I bought my new sewing machine at the beginning of the year? I did lots of research and finally decided on the Singer Precision. I've LOVED this machine! But recently my stitches have been off and the sewing looks sloppy. I have never taken a sewing class ( except in high school, but that was ages ago) and am mostly just self taught. I tried everything I could think of to adjust the tension and nothing was working. I was wondering if my machine was broken.

Whenever I have a problem I call my mom. Don't we all? She told me I might need to get it serviced and clean it. I had no idea how to even take my machine apart to clean it! So, I decided to see if I could find someone here in town that repairs sewing machines. That's when I found my good friend DeVon.

This morning I went over to DeVon's house and had him teach me more about my machine. It turns out I've been threading my bobbin wrong this ENTIRE time! No wonder things were not working for me. I felt so silly when I found out what was wrong but I'm so glad for his help. He also told me more about my machine and how to take it apart and clean it. When we got home the first thing I did was sew. It's amazing how much better your machine will sew when you thread it right. ;)
